Overall we would give 4 stars. We would give 5 stars for the following: Phil's castle tour is not to be missed. Phil was knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour (whether the stories are true or not) made you feel like you knew the castle inside out which really made a difference. There were only 4 people in our timeslot so the experience was intimate. However, we saw larger groups on other days so better book ahead. The Library Bar was my favourite place in the castle. The waitresses were all attentive, patient, and friendly. (Alas I did not get the name of the lady with a gentle voice who served us most of the time.) The vibe was cosy and homely, price reasonable, and real books available! We also had a lovely afternoon tea and board game session in front of the fireplace. The beds were all right and we had some comfortable nights. The reception and site team were quick to fix things. It would have been even better, had the rooms been refurbished, spacious, and better cleaned (Courtyard Classic). The main restaurant might want to refill the breakfast buffet slightly more frequently. The location was great, just a short drive to Beamish, Durham, and Newcastle.

A great stop over while working in the North East. The service from all the staff was excellent and the poached eggs in the breakfast room were very nice. The rooms are a little tired in general, but my room had a new carpet and the bed was really comfy. I paid £81.00 via Booking.Com for B+B and parking. So value for money was excellent. It is worth adding Lumley Castle truly is an old castle and I can imagine kids loving this fact as the courtyard gives a medieval vibe.

What an amazing place! So magical! A big thank you a Mr Smith on reception for helping us and to Vicki in housekeeping. The breakfast was lovely, although I wish someone would have told us that the veggie sausages had sold out instead of just not putting one on the plate. When having drinks in the Library bar our order was taken and we didn't receive our drinks for 30 mins. No apology given. The rest of the stay was amazing. The staff are caring and the hotel/castle is fantastic and full of history and fun. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Lumley Castle is a charming Grade 1 listed building, set in beautiful grounds and has a lovely ambience about it. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are tastefully decorated as is the hotel itself, with lovely cosy fires in the library bar, which also offers wonderful cocktails and tasty bar snacks and meals. The Knights Restaurant offers a more intimate dining experience with excellent food and wines. This is now our 4th visit to the hotel, having also taken part in one of their banqueting events which was extremely enjoyable and good fun. We will definitely be back again in the future.

A fabulous place to stay. I spend a couple of days a week working away from home and this was by far the best overall experience I've had in a hotel. Staff are superb, rooms are incredibly comfortable and well appointed, the location is amazing and the food tremendous. The most comfortable bed I've slept in and the shower was powerful and hot. The ribeye steak was simply phenomenal. If I'm ever in the area again for work, I'd be hoping to stay here. Unfortunately, I have to book hotels with a same-day refundable policy, so Lumley is often ruled out on that requirement, which is a shame as I can often have my work schedule changed at short notice. Highly, highly recommended.

What a true gem of a hotel. Amazing, historic castle in a lovely setting with fantastic service and wonderfully friendly, helpful and professional staff Soooo much better than a chain hotel and quite exceptional value for money. Breakfasts are awesome and the dining options are fabulous. Rooms are unique, comfortable and beautifully appointed. This is our second stay and will definitely not be our last! It’s one of our favourite hotels in the country.

We went with our friends for dinner. The whole atmosphere from arriving at the gates when you see the castle lit up is magical. Wandering from the carpark through the doors into the castle was exciting. The staff on reception were friendly and directed us to the bar. The ambiance and decor was superb. We sat in front of a roaring fire. It was so cosy. Were were taken to our table by a lovely waitress. The restaurant was decorated in keeping with the period. It wasn't cramped. Lots of staff on hand attentive but not too much. Great menu choice and I must say it was there was something for everyone. We ordered the chicken liver pate for my started, it was divine. For mains I ordered featherblade of beef with winter roit vegetables. Og my lord, it did not disssapoint. It was cooked to perfection. For desert it had to be sticky toffee pudding. It was a masterpiece. I've never tasted anything like it, it was delicious. The quality of the food was so fresh and presentation exquisite. We had a fabulous night. Great company and amazing food and atmosphere. Will definitely return soon. Thank you.
